  The workshop in the woods
  Aiming to build the world's finest pianos The Kawai Ryuyo Factory was built in 1980 and is designed to “build the world’s finest pianos,”the philosophy of Koichi Kawai, the founder of KAWAI. In 1997, the factory was the first in the piano industry to receive ISO 14001 certification, an international standard for environmental management systems, and in 2005, it received ISO 9001 certification, an international standard for quality management. The approximately 30,000 trees planted by the factory's employees have grown over the years, making the factory a lush green space worthy of the name "the workshop in the woods." Pianos are evolving every day thanks to research using the latest science and technology, but a truly good piano is not born from the latest technology and machines. The best pianos are born only when craftsmen take each piano seriously and breathe life into it. This trip comes to an end with a visit to the Ryuyo Factory, a green workshop that nurtures Kawai's dreams and romance, as the company continues to refine its sound without being swayed by anything.
