This workshop utilizes the blessings of sericulture in Sugari, Tenryu Ward, to create natural silk cocoon soap that prioritizes moisture.

The soap uses cocoons from silkworms that have been raised on mulberry leaves from Hyakuguri, and oil infused with the branches and leaves of Kuromoji trees that grow in the mountains of Tenryu.

Since these are items that touch your skin every day, why not learn about the materials and enjoy the process of creating them with your own hands?
This workshop is recommended not only for adults looking for a hands-on crafting experience, but also for families with children during their summer vacation.

● Sericulture and Hyakkori

Sericulture is an industry that involves growing mulberry leaves, raising silkworms, and producing raw silk from their cocoons.

Hamamatsu City has long been a region where the textile industry has flourished.
The background to this is the sericulture culture of the Kita-Tohoku region, including Hyakukori in Tenryu Ward.

During the Meiji period, sericulture began in earnest in this region,
Living in harmony with nature and producing high-quality silk has supported people's lives.

In this experience, you will experience the blessings of sericulture that have been passed down through the generations in Hyakukori.
It can be incorporated into modern life as "daily self-care."

 

● Hyakugori original silk cocoon soap

We use silkworm cocoons from silkworms that have fed on mulberry leaves in Hyakugori, Tenryu Ward, to create natural silkworm cocoon soap that prioritizes moisture.

Cocoons are known as a material containing natural proteins that are the source of raw silk.
By making soap while working with the ingredients, we can create something that you use on your skin every day.An opportunity to learn what materials it is made from.Application

In addition, the oil used is made from the branches and leaves of the Kuromoji tree, which grows in the mountains of Tenryu.
You can also enjoy a gentle fragrance that makes you want to take a deep breath, as if you were in a forest.

Even if you're a complete beginner at soap making, we'll carefully instruct you on the characteristics of the materials and how to handle them.

Time: 10:00 AM - 12:30 PM (The lecture will last approximately 2 hours)

Price: Adults 7,500 yen (includes one drink) → For a limited time, with the application of the regional coupon from the tourism campaign, the price is 6,500 yen for adults.

What to bring: Apron, towel, cooler bag with a sturdy bottom, glasses (if you have them)

Points to note

*The soap can be used after aging for about 3 weeks. One set will make 4-5 bars of soap, each about 50 grams.

*If you would like additional soap, please let us know on the day.

*Caustic soda will be used, so please bring your own glasses or goggles if you have them (they are also available here).

 

 

 

 

●Enjoy Hyakugori even more after the experience ends

After enjoying soap making, why not spend some relaxing time in the satoyama (traditional rural landscape) of Hyakugori?

At the venue, "Hyakugori-an," you can enjoy fragrant country-style soba noodles.
Also, three houses down, you can experience picking organic blueberries.

Both locations are available without reservations, making them ideal for a stop after a workshop.

 

 

●Hyakkori Lovers Association

The Hyakukori district, located about 25 minutes by car from Futamata district in the center of Tenryu, is a small settlement with a population of about 100 people.
Surrounded by mountains and with plenty of remaining greenery, this area attracts people who call it their spiritual home.

We are working to make this area a better and more enjoyable place while protecting the natural environment, traditional culture, and way of life of the long-time residents.
